What is COVID-19?
SARS-CoV-2 is a novel coronavirus that has emerged and caused coronavirus disease, abbreviated as COVID-19. COVID-19 is mostly spread by respiratory droplets released when people talk, cough, or sneeze. Transmission to persons from surfaces contaminated with the virus has NOT been documented yet, but current evidence suggests that the virus may remain viable for hours to days on surfaces made from a variety of material. It is, therefore, thought that the virus may spread to hands from a contaminated surface and then to the eyes, nose or mouth, causing infection. Therefore, personal prevention practices such as hand-washing, staying home when sick, and environmental cleaning and disinfection are important preventative principles.
